My 4th week on my Internship!!!!!!!!!

When I entered my internship I felt really different. The reason I felt that way is because the students were getting out early at 12:50 and I wanted more time to be able to know more about my interests . Around 11:30 the students were doing math because they were getting out early. The lesson today was the double of a number for example 2+2=4. My mentor was leading a game but unfortunately some students were getting frustrated because they were not "winners" and my mentor decided to stop the game for that reason. Time passed by really quickly and it was time for lunch. When they came back from lunch they were still working with double problems. I noticed that some got it pretty quickly while others didn't. My mentor wants them to be able to solve a subtraction and addition problems quickly because that will help them in 2nd grade. From 1:00-4:00 my mentor is had parent conferences. I noticed that my mentor was so professional on explaining parents what areas their children needs help on and what areas they are passing or improving.

ELD

For the past 3 weeks I've been watching my mentor doing English Language Development. The program is required by the district for 30 minutes each day. In my opinion I would say that in a way it helps them develop more knowledge. In another way I see that the program bored s them to death. Also the program intends to help Spanish speakers not forget how to speak English fluently. Most importantly ELD helps them with academic language. My mentor thinks that doing ELD with her students does not help them apply what they learn to their daily conversations. When I was in first grade I remember that talking to my friends helped me improve my academic language. I would say that it will would be helpful for her students to talk to their friends. Being here for the last three weeks and seeing how ELD works helped me know about how 1st graders learn.

wonderful day

On Thursday I learned some interesting stuff that are really important. When my mentor were doing a lesson I pulled out a few kids to take a math test. I found out that some of the kids had difficult time while others didn't . When I was almost done she was done with the math lesson. After that she read a few books to them. When school was over she told me new vocabulary that I didn't know before. She said that each kid needs differentiated instruction. Basically that means that she has to find materials that meets their needs and teaching from what they know. Learning that mew word impacted my life because I also have to find a materials that meets their needs. Every Tuesday and Thursday is a different day. I learn new things when I go to my internship.
